How To Choose The Right Drum Pad For You

For most beginning drummers, drum pads are an important part of the drum kit. They are your first barrier against falling over, sliding around or getting stuck playing behind your drum set.

When you buy a drum set, you’re going to go through various pieces of kit before you find something that’s perfect for you. You’re going to get to grips with the bass drum, the snare, the cymbals, the high-hat, the double-bass, and maybe even a pedal steel, depending on your personal taste.

The drum pads you get when you get a drum kit are what make it all work, so how can you get the perfect drum pad? It’s a big purchase and an important part of your drum kit, so it’s always going to be hard to know if you’re getting the best one.

The most important thing when you’re buying a drum set is to take your time to find the best pads for your style of drumming.

Here are the most important things to consider when buying a drum pad.

Size

When you’re thinking about the size of your drum pads, you should think about how you play. Are you playing more single- or double-stroke? You need to pick a size that works best for your style of play.

There are two things to consider when choosing the size: playing with one hand or with both hands. With a single-stroke kit, you’re not going to use the floor tom with two hands. You’re going to play it with just one hand, so you want a large diameter. You need a pad that’s big enough to sit on.

With a double-stroke kit, you’re going to be playing on the floor tom. You need a larger pad diameter, and you’ll want a lot more surface area on your pad. You’re going to be playing with two hands on it, so you’ll want a bigger pad, and you’ll want to consider how thick it is. A really thick pad will be really hard to play on with two hands.

You’ll want a good pad if you’re going to be playing on it with two hands. In the picture below, I’m using a big old 24″ diameter drum pad with a really thick pad. You don’t need to use thick pads to play double-stroke, but it can be really good for when you’re playing with two hands.

A pad that’s too thin can be too difficult to play on with two hands. The thicker you go, the better, but you have to play around and find a good thickness that works for you.

Weight

If you’re going to be playing drum sets, you’re going to need to consider the weight of the drum set. It’s not just a question of comfort and stability when you’re sitting down playing.

For a single-stroke kit, it’s pretty obvious that the weight of your kit is going to be a large part of how your whole drum set feels. It’s going to be heavier than your cymbals, so it’s going to feel more stable and solid, so you’ll want a heavier drum kit.

With a double-stroke kit, it’s going to be heavier than your single-stroke kit. You’re going to have a bass drum, a snare, two floor toms, one kick and your cymbals. It’s going to be the heaviest drum kit you can have in most cases, so it’s going to be a lot heavier than your single-stroke kit.

You’ll need a stable, stable drum set when you’re going to be playing double-stroke. You’re going to play the bass drum all the time, so you’ll want to make sure that it’s really stable. You’re going to want to be able to play on the floor tom for long periods of time. You want to be comfortable on the floor tom for long periods of time.

This is a really heavy drum set, so it’s something you’ll be using to gig around a bit. You’ll want to make sure you’re comfortable when you’re gigging around with it.

Thickness

If you’re going to be using your drum set, you’re going to need to think about the thickness of the pad. You’re going to play a double-stroke, and you’re going to need a thicker pad than a single-stroke.

A single-stroke kit can have a really thin pad. If you’re going to play double-stroke, you’re going to want something that’s thick enough to play on. You’ll also be playing on the floor, tom, so you’ll need a thick pad.

But it’s not enough to just have a thick pad. If you go really thick, you can’t use your hands. You can’t feel the instrument through the pad, so you can’t play your instrument.

It’s really important to get a pad that you can play on, so it’s really important to make sure it’s thick enough.

The thickness of the pad will also be something you’re going to have to decide when you’re playing on your new drum set. If you’re just getting a snare and a kick, you’ll probably get away with a thin pad. You’re going to play the kick all the time, and the snare just needs to be thicker to help it make a different sound.

But if you’re going to play with the whole drum set, you’re going to need to be comfortable with the thickness of the pad.

The thickness of the pad will also affect your playing style. If you’re playing a really thick pad, you might use it with more volume. It’s really important to try out a few different thicknesses.
